ELECTRIK PLAYGROUND TO HOLD IBIZA RESIDENCY AT WORLDS BIGGEST CLUB

Privilege Ibiza No Comments »

We’re incredibly proud and barely able to contain our excitement in announcing that The Electrik Playground will be hosting Room 2 (Coco Loco) at Privilege in Ibiza every Monday night throughout the summer, partnering the world-dominating Tiësto.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in world music, Tiësto was recently recognised as GLOBAL NO1 at the IDMA music conference at Miami 08.

We’ll be kicking off the season on Monday 7th July for what promises to be an amazing summer with the worlds biggest DJ. As the exclusive event partner throughout the season, the most exciting underground club night to hit the UK in 2008 will be bringing a unique twist to the huge Tiësto “In Search Of Sunrise” events. Electrik Playground will be showcasing the UK’s finest breakthrough DJs and producers, and bringing the hottest new talent in electronic music to Ibiza.

In association with Galaxy Fm’s award-winning Nu Breed show, Riley and Durrant will be calling The Electrik Playground their weekly Ibiza home. Support will be mined from our growing army of local talent and future house music heros, alongside some of the UK’s best DJ’s and producers from Kate Lawler to Nick ‘BODYROX’ Bridges to Will Bailey AND The Young Punx. Taking the formula from our UK parties our unique genre-busting music policy will span the electronic spectrum, creating a unique upfront sound which will keep you dancing till sunrise!

Throughout the season we will be recording the hottest sets from the room and broadcasting them across Riley & Durrant’s Galaxy Network shows - some of the most listened-to in Great Britain.

We will also be hosting weekly Electrik Sunset sessions at Kanya throughout the 12 week run, giving a fresh approach to the sound of the pre party.

Electrik Playground will be releasing a very special download album exclusive to itunes mixed by Riley and Durrant to coincide with the summer events, and will be running an exclusive competition throughout the summer to win a VIP all expenses paid trip to the closing party!

This will be a great partnershop with Tiesto and Electrik Playground working hand in hand to create one of dance musics biggest ever residencies!!

DC10 Circoloco to be shut for 60 days

Circoloco @ Dc10 No Comments »

“DC10 Circoloco to be shut for 57 days, on the orders of the Spanish government.”

After a glorious start to the season the Spanish authorities have stepped in to quash DC10 - declaring last year’s 60 day closure order must stand, and that the club which was closed for days last June has to serve the “remaining” 57 days of its ban.

Ibiza Voice spoke exclusively to Circoloco’s Andrea Pelino, who is understandably devastated by the news. “I feel like DC10 is the monster of the island, like they hate us. I don’t understand why this always happens,” he says, audibly upset. The decision appears timed to cause maximum havoc to Circoloco. One-hundred plus security, staff and DJs have been contracted for the summer. Fans and friends have booked their holidays to Ibiza. All eyes are on the island and the message that will be flashed around the world tomorrow will - undoubtedly - be “drug den DC10 shut down.”

We bring people to the island all year round. People charter jets to fly to our New Year’s Day party.”

The club was open all winter, and we were talking to the authorities, asking for their decision. You have to ask why they chose to shut us now,”Andrea comments. He is quietly angry, too. “We bring people to the island all year round. People charter jets to fly to our New Year’s Day party. Circo Loco is around the world now. We work with great artists like Bjork and Massive Attack, we have parties in the best clubs all over the world. But here we’re demonised.”

First it was no after-hours… now the attitude seems to be “no” full-stop. There is only one thing to do: link up and fight back. “I want the support of the people. I would like to see 100,000 clubbers write to the government and ask ‘why?’” says Andrea. Circo Loco will be fighting back, though. “Before I cooperated, I tried to do everything the government asked. But now I’m going to be strong. I have a lot of questions about this decision and I want answers. The situation is crazy. Circoloco started a movement in Ibiza. We brought the underground people together. This is ridiculous. I’ve put 100% of my heart into this club and I’m going to fight for it.”

Circo Loco was born in DC10 and it’s not going to another club, never, ever...”

At the moment Andrea is wrestling with whether to close the club from Friday or to have a final party on Monday before beginning the 57 day closure. Whatever his choice his loyalty to the club is absolute and he firmly rules out a move to another venue: “Circo Loco was born in DC10 and it’s not going to another club, never, ever. If DC10 is closed Circoloco is closed.”

Why? Indeed. It defies belief that the Spanish government continues to single out DC10 for special treatment, that it continues to treat Ibiza’s most important industry as if it were something to be ashamed of. Already the island is facing a quieter season than ever. So far, tourist numbers are 20,000 less than the same time last year. Club owners, promoters, bars, small businesses, hotels, taxi drivers… the entire economy of the island faces a crunch as the knock on effect from the after-hours ban is exacerbated by the economic downturn and unseasonable rain in the early season.

Ibiza needs DC10. These aren’t just a couple of local discos, these are world-famous clubs that partiers from Argentina to Asia come specifically to visit. They are part of the lifeblood of the island.

Shutting them will deal the island an economic blow it won’t recover from this summer, and maybe not even the next. What’s more, the draconian police tactics will discourage visitors from booking in coming years, leading to long term repercussions. “It’s crazy,” Andrea says with a sigh. Ibiza Voice couldn’t agree more. These clubs - they are part of our lifestyle, our music culture, they’re where we celebrate music and freedom and the true spirit of Ibiza. If we lose them, we lose part of what makes Ibiza magical.

It’s not just DC10, either. Amnesia - closed alongside DC10 last year - is in danger of being shut again as well, according to a source close to the club.

Post your comments, write letters, send emails… do whatever you can to make your voice heard. This is our freedom they’re taking away - it’s time to take it back.

ROLL OUT THE BARREL!!!MUSIC AND MAYHEM, FREAKS AND FUN… IBIZA’S BEST LOVED PARTY IS BACK FOR ITS 14TH SEASON

conetisland.jpg

MIKE&CLAIRE…CLONES AND ZOMBIES…WALL OF SOUND…MARK RONSON…THE BAREFOOT DOCTOR… FLAMENCO GUITARS…MYLO…FATBOYSLIM…OPERATIC MERMAIDS…HUNKY SAILORS!

On the verge of throwing open its elaborate stage doors for the 14th consecutive year, the good folks of MANUMISSION are gearing up for what has all the makings of being one of it’s best seasons ever.

Never afraid to break boundaries and perceptions, Friday 20th June is the first date for the MANUMISSION diary. Amnesia Ibiza is the place to be for a cultural celebration unmatched in Clubland, or any other land you might care to mention.

The Soundtrack….

Renowned for their vanguard ways, this year Manumission have enlisted the help of Mark (Wall of Sound) Jones and between them, have put together a line up that will have Ibiza shaking in its platform shoes. From Zane Lowe to 2ManyDJs, Mylo to FatBoySlim, Kissy Sell Out to Mark Ronson, these are merely a few of the must see/must hear guests that are set to provide the soundtrack to Manumission 2008. With this year’s parties taking over both rooms of the world’s best club, it’s a match made in Heaven and a gift from the Gods for any discerning music buff.

The Culture Fest…

But Manumission, as always, is not just about the music; rather, it is a cultural explosion that this year incorporates elements of opera from Belgium’s appraised Elise Caluwaerts, Flamenco from the island’s very own Paco Fernandez, costumes from the hand of one of Spain’s finest couturiers, Manuel Albarran, film from Phil Silcock, art from Sergio Ferrero and life changing affirmations from the Barefoot Doctor.

The King&Queen of Manumission, Mike and Claire will take to the stage, joined by their ever adoring and loving crew and cast, in a story of love and gore, life and death, glitter and gyrations, acrobatics and disco antidotes.

The Show and its Cast…

With a storyline based on the weird and the wonderful, the Manumission ‘Coney Island Review’ combines a cast of beauties and freaks in a four act tale of Vaudevillian mischief.

Johnny Golden, Antonio Culebras, Polly Fey, Antonio de la Rosa, the Dynamite Boys and the Manumission Girls are merely a few of the names that make up the momentous cast in a tale of kidnapping and cloning, anti-corporate clampdown and chipping, all set within the freaky boundaries of Coney Island.

Set to a soundtrack created especially for Manumission by A Human, and including lyrics penned by the Queen herself, Claire Manumission, the story tells of the evil Frausdter and the Dandy Doctor’s attempt to kidnap and clone the Manumission crew before dooming them forever to a life of Zombie Hedonism set in a dangerous drag room of transvestites…will our heroes escape from the clutches of the Terrible Two and continue on their Manumission World Tour??

Only one way to find out.. Never one to shy from the weird and the wonderful, this year Manumission is also presenting the ‘Freak of the Week’ with special guests including Lucky, the World’s Most Tattooed Man, and Baby with her Acrobatic Vagina..say no more.

The History…

Over the course of the last 14 years in Ibiza, promoters have come and promoters have gone, yet Manumission shows no sign of slowing down or taking it’s last bow on the great Ibiza Stage. Now heading into its second year at Amnesia, it looks like this year is set for more Manumission Glory through its unique and unmatched brilliance.

This year, Manumission is also celebrating the 10th anniversary of possibly the world’s most hedonistic experience of the era, the Manumission Motel..for those who were there, a trip down hazy memory lane is called for. Be a part of the Manumission Experience this year and lets get this show on the road…

THE DATES

With its Opening Party on Friday, 20th June, MANUMISSION will run every consecutive Friday until Friday 19th Sept.

MANUMISSION: Only for the DARING, Only on FRIDAYS, Only in AMNESIA, Only in IBIZA…
