INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT - The industry player comments….

Trend 1 Comment »

Pete Tong, IMS
“I am proud to be launching the IMS at such a critical time for the music industry. This is what we all love doing for a living, but we can all get better at what we do and learn from each other. IMS offers the glamour and glitz of my favorite party island of Ibiza but with a back to business ethos leading into the big Ibiza opening party weekend.”

Ben Turner, IMS
“Back to Business may seem like the antithesis of the opening party weekend of Ibiza, but for those in electronic music, business is never too far from home. I am excited to be a part of sharing knowledge and ideas with the industry, it will only make the genre stronger.”

Danny Whittle, IMS
“Ibiza hosts the biggest parties in the world; The IMS is about the business behind the parties, the music and the people. Expect big things.”

Mark Netto, IMS
“Ibiza truly is the dance music capital of the world, no other destination can rival its impact and cross spectrum of visitors. IMS in May will be the perfect way for businesses to capitalise on this unique gathering at this time of year.”

Simeon Friend, IMS
“Such a refreshing approach to the annual music conference by finally dealing with and addressing issues like brands in music, something imperative to the future of our business. I will definitely be using the summit for myself and our employees to both create and leverage opportunities within our exciting industry.”

Steve Hulme, IMS
“This summit, with some of our scenes most professional movers and shakers, promises to become the most important conference date in our calendar.”

Mark Grotefeld, Pioneer Europe
“Pioneer are proud to be the first official partners of the IMS. We have a long history with the electronic music industry, and a long history with Ibiza, so this marriage is perfect for our plans going forward. A great idea by a great team of people. This is the most important new date in our calendar that we will be supporting in full, both this year and in its bright future.”

Rob da Bank, BBC Radio 1 / Sunday Best / Bestival
“I am excited to be bringing Rob da Bank & Friends to the IMS in Ibiza. The island has always been a great focal point for the dance industry so its great to finally see it made official by the creation of the International music Summit. I intend to present the freshest showcase of new electronic bands to the occasion.”

David Levy, William Morris Agency
“Every year, the Ibizian summer is the tipping point for everything else that happens in electronic culture globally, on its dance floors and in every other aspect of the lifestyle surrounding it. So to finally have a true business forum take place at the beginning of each summer is a great development and one that William Morris Agency welcomes and intends to support.”

Simon Dunmore, Defected Records
“Since the dance music heyday of the 90’s and the success of WMC, we’ve lacked a forum to kick start the summer season. Ibiza is the logical and ideal location for all the obvious reasons. This is long overdue and the IMS will have the support of Defected Records and all of its artists.”

Rachel Birchwood, IMD
“A music conference in Ibiza - at last! Why has this never been done before? Ibiza is such an important market during the summertime for music. What was an island for dance music has recently added indie and rock music to its offering. Ibiza is now rapidly moving with the times, and having a global music conference is another step forward for the island.”

Tom Middleton
“What a great vision, and long overdue. The most suitable location on the planet to host an event of this magnitude, and with the correct focus on the realities of surviving in the dance music industry and its future, it should be a wholly productive and creatively rewarding experience for all attendees. Unmissable and essential for anyone involved in dance music.”

Andy Cato, Groove Armada
“Ibiza has been leading the way in dance music for 20 years. Through the IMS we can finally recognise that, and get the right people round the right table.”

Judy Weinstein, Def Mix Productions
“How about a music industry convention taking place in a location where dance music is actually a predominant lifestyle? IMS will prove to be both educational and entertaining for all participants. It’s about time!”

Lincoln Cheng, Zouk Club / Singapore & Kuala Lumpur
“This is a brilliant idea organised by the right people with idyllic Ibiza as the back drop. What better timing than to place the conference around the opening parties. You have the best of both worlds. Why didn’t it happen sooner?”

Mark Brown, CR2 Records
“International dance music is at one its strongest points again, it feels like a new chapter, so the timing of IMS and the ethos behind it couldn’t be better timed. Ibiza is one of the most important testing markets for my CR2 label, and IMS validates everything we feel about the island.”

Andy McKay, Ibiza Rocks
“Ibiza has been at the epi-centre of music not only in Europe but throughout the World for many years and it’s great to be involved in a Music Seminar that reflects that.”

Amy Thompson, Xray Touring
“Its one of the most logical places to have a music conference. To be able to meet everyone in Ibiza as the summer begins, to promote artists summer activity and tracks is an incredible opportunity especially as Ibiza remains the key showcase for gigs and records for so many artists. It’s a fanastic new opportunity for everyone to meet in Europe before the summer craziness begins. I’m looking forward to attending. ”

Sander Kleinenberg
“If there is any place proven to be the best backdrop for a summit about our beloved scene it¹s Ibiza. And if there is one man to host such an event it has to be Pete Tong.”

Charlie Chester, Icon Ibiza
“Jesus Christ, about time too. How long have we been waiting for a real electronic summit here in Ibiza. The timing is perfect in May and with the people behind this making it happen, Its a winner.”

Tom Novy
“Ibiza changed my whole life in 1989, and it is still the hotspot for dance music worldwide. I¹ve been DJ´ing at parties here since 1996 and I’ve asked myself before why is there nothing like the IMS in Ibiza? This is great news for dance music and for the island. IMS will be another important date for the dance music industry network.”

Mitch Clark, Artists Manager
“Unlike anywhere else in the world, millions of clubbers visit Ibiza every year to hear their favourite DJs ,which makes this island the perfect platform for a dance conference, especially one that is spearheaded by people who share a real passion for the music.”

Geoff Oakes, Renaissance
“It makes sense for what is the center of dance music for several months of the year to host the International Music Summit. Ibiza is the ideal time and place just before the summer hots up to indulge in some real business. I really look forward to attending.”

Jo Mills
“What a great concept! Its well over due, I have always enjoyed Miami but Ibiza is at the forefront of dance music. A lot is created here and it will be brilliant for the island to showcase what’s new and exciting for 2008 … My full support and looking forward to it.”

Crown Management
“The people behind IMS makes you realise that this is an event we must all sit up and be part of. The ability to network within such intimate surroundings will give us the ability to execute the deals that are so important to the future of our business.”

Kaz James, Bodyrockers
“Miami is fantastic but sometimes the early start in the year is not the best timing for launching new tracks for the summer. The International Music Summit definitely offers better timing for me and I look forward to being there.”

INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT PANELLISTS ANNOUNCED

Trend 1 Comment »

The International Music Summit is fast establishing itself as one of the most talked about events of the year. You have read the hype, now its time to get down to business.

At a time when the music industry is in a state of flux, the International Music Summit is offering 300 music industry professionals a unique opportunity to debate and shape the future of their industry, with unparalleled access to some of the most influential individuals in the business. The IMS provides a platform to address the key challenges electronic music faces, as well as showcasing the very best it has to offer.

Over fifty of the leading figures behind the music industry have now been named as panellists, lending heavyweight support to three days of intensively programmed events. Every aspect of the industry is represented including leading labels, agencies, management, festivals, promotions, press, mobile and digital content providers in both the live and electronic music arena thus proving that this IMS really does mean business.

Francois Kevorkian (Francois K) is confirmed as a key note speaker for the conference. Francois’ career spans over 30 years, as a pioneering DJ having played at venues such as Studio 54, Paradise Garage & The Loft in America and remixer for the likes of U2 and Diana Ross. His speech: ‘Past, Present, Future’ will reflect his 30 years at the cutting edge and his insights on survival going forward, something he tackles daily with his ever-relevant Wave Music imprint.

Tom Middleton will create the IMS anthem in a live 1 hour showcase recording. The following day, the track will be remixed, again live, by remixer of the moment, Radio Slave, before being passed over to the man of the conference, Pete Tong, to be synchronised into visuals from a leading TV show. He will do this with Adam Wolf from Pig Factory in Los Angeles, a leading source of music placement. In a pioneering move, the track will be auctioned off at the end of the conference to labels with all proceeds going to a local Ibiza charity. Keep an eye on the website for further information.

For all those interested in building new inroads for business development, the International Music Summit really is the place to be. The panels and talks focus on topics such as the exponential rise of the digital world, the controversial topic of whether the DJ Top 100 is hype or not, or the debate of whether the dance music industry needs a ruling body… please refer below for a full list of seminars & panels.
